New Orleans area schools for kids with learning disabilities (Abita Springs: house, elementary school)

Anyone know of ANY schools in the New Orleans or surrounding area that have programs for children with learning disabilities? I have an 8 year old who was recently been diagnosed with a mild LD and I would like for him to be in an environment that is still normal but sensitive to his learning differences.

I am in the same boat with my nine year old son. As of this school year I am homeschooling him, but would like to know of other options. Like your child, my son has a mild disability, he is currently doing grade level work, and prior to this year maintained average grades in a "normal" classroom setting. I feel he would do okay anywhere, but I want an environment and school that will allow him to thrive. I know your post is several years old, but if you have any experiences that could help us, please share.

Good lord, your son is maintaining average grades in a regular classroom and you pulled him out for homeschooling? Why? Would you be surprised to know that most boys aren't interested in school until high school?

Would it surprise you to know "some" of us in education feel elementary school is essentially built for girls, not boys. If your boy was holding his own, fine, do some enrichment activities at home to build on the learning taking place in school. Don't pull hime out.

I've seen a lot of people homeschooling. Unless one of you has a college degree, tons of time, and money, chances are you are doing more harm than good by homeschooling.

Hi I am also seeking a New Orleans school for my 11 yr old son, who also has a learning disability who has been attending Holy Ghost Catholic School, and has not been doing well . he is a beautiful bright boy and instead of helping him, they just "pushed him along" I fought and fought and no avail, and I am desperate if there is anyone who has any information they would care to share, please please let me know.

I just found the Raphael Academy. It's a new private school. My daughter, age 6, was just diagnosed with a learning disability. They have an open house on July 16th.

After our son's evaluation, we have been faced with keeping him in his private school and hiring a learning specialist or changing schools. The Psychologist recommended Holy Rosary Academy first and foremost. The problem is the fact that we are on the Westbank. Its not the fact that we wouldn't do anything for him, but the location is not the most convenient. If anyone knows of any other choices, please share it with us on this board.
