Default Faubourg St. John

My husband and I are moving to New Orleans from NYC. We have found an apartment that we adore. It is located in the Faubourg St. John neighboorhood, a few blocks from Esplande and N. Broad.

Is this a safe neighboorhood? We would like to have one car and two bikes. Is it safe to bike down Esplanade to the Quarter?

Thank you for your help!

Umm, as I remember it, that would not be a good area in terms of safety. Broad is not safe on that side of town. You could ride down Esplanade but in New Orleans tere aren't bike lanes so be careful! Oh, and take the bikes inside at night or you won't see them again.

I moved to the Bayou St. John area and feel very safe. What side of Broad is the apartment on? New Orleans is such that safety can dramatically change from one block to the next, so it's hard to say without knowing where your apartment is located. What street or block are you considering?

No matter where it is, biking all the way down Esplanade to the Quarter/Marigny is probably not the best of ideas. Maybe during the day, but definitely not at night.

I am moving to NOLA this summer 2009. Did you make it to NOLA and where did you wind up? Any thoughts on the neighborhood you chose?
