which place should we move to?
we will soon move to New orleans and work at the places near tulane univ.
We are live in the MD now and have no idea about New orleans.
First we want to find a good private school, and then we need find a low crime "good" place to live, of course, if that is near our work location, that will be great but that is not most important since driving a little longer is ok for us.
Consider all above criteria, which place or school is the best option for us?
Thanks so much.

If low-crime is your top priority, with a short commute being secondary, I would not suggest living in the city. The University/Uptown area near Tulane is one of the safer areas of the city, relatively speaking, but that isn’t saying much. If you are willing to live outside the city and want a short commute, check out Metairie, specifically the 70005 zip south of I-10.
Before giving school recommendations, what is the gender and grades of your child(ren)?

Thanks, rgreenkrb. Your input is excellent. We are no clue about the New orleans. Although I am study the map in those days but based on your instructions, looks like I know an entry point to start a life in New orleans. Yes, the safe and secure + good private school is high priority. Of course, I may buy or rent a good house or 3+ beds apartment based on the price of house or the renting rate.
My daughter is second grade now and will start third grade in new orleans.
We want to find a good private school for her in Metairie based on your suggestion.
Also my wife is working at a location close to "Louis Armstrong Park" in new orleans downtown by just checking the map. It is around intersection between highway 10 and Canal street. If we live in the Metairie, how long we need to drive to above place? Looks like the distance is not long but I just do not know how bad the traffic is.
Again, thanks so much.

Just be aware rentals are hard to come by, and they will be pricey. That is because so many people who lost their homes in Katrina are back living in rentals. I agree for safety you want to be in Metairie. There are many fine Catholic schools in that area if you are interested in that. The area of Louis Armstong park is only about 15 minutes from Metairie normally, don't know about in morning traffic though. It is on the edge of the French Quarter, which though safer since so many in the projects have not returned since the hurricane, you would still need to be careful and aware of your surroundings when walking to your car.

If tuition $’s are not a concern, check into private schools such as St. Martin’s Episcopal. But this will cost you about $13k/year. The Catholic schools are much cheaper and offer a good value.

Thanks so much
Hi, LovesMountains and rgreenkrb,Thanks for your information.
my wife has sent three email to the different private school in zip code 70005.
My daugher does not know anything about catholic so that I do not know whether it is a good idea to send her into catholic school. I do no know how much I need pay for catholic school. but it is expensive for one non-catholic school. Looks like there is some testing and we are far away from new orleans now and I am not sure whether it is easy to get admission if we are willing to pay the expensive tuition.
Anyway, Thanks so much.

The "Catholic" schools do not really teach any thing about Catholicism, Just really how to be a good person/Citizen...
So no worries there
