Should I move back?
I moved from NOLA to NYC last summer, and cannot wait to get out. I'm planning on moving out in the summer of 2010, and would love to come back to New Orleans. However, the recent crime (and the crime from when I lived there) really makes me question moving back. Combine that with the terrible economy, Nagin, Riley, and the dysfunction of New Orleans in general - is it worth it?
From those of you living there now, or those who are considering moving back, what do you think? I want to move back, but I don't want to be in a city that seems to be moving backwards. Granted, Nagin will be out of office by then, but that doesn't mean things will get any better. I'd love to be part of the group of people trying to make New Orleans a better place, but that group seems to be getting smaller and less effective with every bad political move by the city and every murder that occurs.
I'd really appreciate any input. Thanks!

I've decided to give it another try. If things are not right I will leave again - this time to never return. I'm not trying to live a gheto wild west lifestyle and if things even remotely resemble that you will see my Uhaul high tail it out.

The NOLA economy is actually BETTER than most cities.
We've got Katrina money and the service industry is fairing well even in light of the recession.
It's the crime that's the whole sticking point.

I am from the west end of Louisiana and I plan on moving to new orleans at the end of this year.. I have been visiting quite frequently, havent had any problems with crime ofcourse I dont do drugs or sell them, and the economy seems to be doing very well, with alot of contruction going on and maybe things can actually be on the upswing for the city..

The crime isn't that bad depending on where you live. I'm between Napoleon and Jefferson Ave. on the river side of Mag and I have no problems.
Economy is great...I'm getting job offers now.
Only downside is the damn bugs are back. Flying termites and the roaches. Ick.

NOLA is nice right now. Move back, but just don't forget to LOCK YOUR DOORS! (and get a car alarm if you think your car is worth stealing)
