Default New Orleans Area for Kids

My nephew is coming to visit at the end of March; he will be almost 4 years old. He's never been to the area and I've never hosted a person so young. I can think of a few things to do, like the zoo, aquarium, swamp tour, etc. I'm interested in hearing some other ideas and I also had a few questions. I live in Slidell, so I'm open to suggestions on the Northshore as well.

Is the Children's Museum appropriate for a child his age? I really wanted to take him to Storyland, but it is only open on the weekend (he will only be here during the week). I read on a website that the sculpture garden in City Park was good for kids. Does anyone agree? Disagree? Thanks.

- I hear the Children's Museum is very nice. I haven't ever been but my nephews loved it.
- Take him to Cafe Du Monde and the Moonwalk.
- I always like to go on the free ferry ride also. My kids were a little scared but they liked it.
- We used to ride the glass elevators in the Hyatt to the top floor that over looked the Superdome. Fantastic view!
(Most of my activities were freebies.)
- If it's warm treat him to a snowball. (yummy!)
- Ground Patti has great burgers kids and parents enjoy.
- City park is nice - I don't remember a sculpture garden but I did enjoy Storyland a lot as a kid.
- Streetcar ride. We REALLY enjoyed that one.
- French Market. Let him pick out a NOLA t-shirt or refrigerator magnet for a friend or other relative.

I hope this helps.

Storyland at City Park. Search this forum for some pics I posted a while back for another poster. It may only be open on weekends until summer.
