The school board has spent decades destroying the schools and squandering millions of dollars. Since the schools are more than 80% black no one cares. While it is true that the New Orleans area has an economy that is centered on tourism, it also has a strong medical industry. The port and the Port of South Louisiana are some of the busiest ports in the world. There are some large manufacturers like Michoud, Textron and Lockheed Martin. There is the UNO Research Park. Marathon refinery is about to spend billions on a major expansion. Shell Oil and Chevron together have 1,500 white collars in the area, and there are other oil companies I can't think of at the moment. The movie making industry is back in business. I could think of more, but I should leave that up to the chamber types.
