Doc Jae is on a distinguished road
Default Lafayette Cemetery and others???

Hello,

I'm going to New Orleans in a couple of weeks for the first time. I was wondering if the cemeteries around town were open and accessible to the public. I've heard about the Lafayette Cemetery from a few people and it sounds like a neat place to visit. Are there any other good cemeteries around town that I should check out?

note: I'm staying on St. Charles near Canal and I'll have my own car, but I would prefer places that I can walk to or places that are near the public transit.

Thanks!

I just got back from NOLA. I visited Lafayette 1 cemetery in the Garden District. Since the predominant advice was that the cemeteries are dangerous to visit alone (and some I saw on the way to the airport really would be!), I took a tour of the Garden District which included this cemetery. This particular cemetery is very safe to visit alone IMO. It's in the middle of the most affluent area of the city, right across from a famous restaurant - The Commander's Palace. It's a lot smaller than the rest, but it's enough to get a feel of what they look like. I wouldn't have a problem visiting this one alone.
