How do you feel about the new speed cameras?
Red light cameras don't bother me. Even after the ones in the city started ticketing people for speeding through intersections when the light is green it still didn't really bother me, but for some reason the new speed cameras that the city just put up just seem to go too far in my opinion.
By the way, is it just me or do the ones at Carrollton & Canal and the ones along Magazine St seem to flash randomly at times?

They don't bother me.......I see people fly through school zones all of the time. I always slow down for school zones. I'm not concerned because I follow the law. I say...let the speeders get caught. When I slow down for school zones they get right on my tail end because they want to speed through. Give them the ticket. I won't get one.

We had red light cameras installed here in Jackson late last year, but now the Governor and the Legislators have banned the use of them... Everyone here is afraid of their "privacy" even though these cameras are at public intersections... Personally, I think the legislators are afraid of getting caught on tape with their mistresses, but that's just me.

I wish we had speed cameras here in BTR (primarily on the thoroughfares going through residential areas or schools). The major roads, let them speed. So far the red light cameras seem to be a success here. Mayor Holden keeps pushing for more. I guess we'll see in another year or so. They don't bother me. From what I've been told, a cop still has to look at the picture before you receive the ticket. So if you roll an inch past the white line but don't go through the intersection you should be cool. Not sure how true that's been sofar though.
I have noticed though at certain intersections here, if the camera flashes at night and I'm coming towards it, I'm temporarily blinded.

I guess I just don't like it because I belong to the 5 miles over club. They've been a success in Orleans and Jefferson too darylwi, but I believe all of the revenue in Jefferson parish is held up in a civil rights lawsuit against the cameras and can't be used. I guess I can see them in the school zones, but the one at the end of the I-10 offramp annoys me.

So if they take them down does that allow the companies who have the camera contracts to sue the city or does the contract become null and void?

They burned me once on Stumpf Boulevard, and I'll never drive that road again. It's a large, split double-lane road that they've designated 25 MPH. Why? Just to nab anyone going over 25 and raise some dough. I got a ticket for going 31 down Stumpf, and there's no reasonable reason why the speed limit should be at least 30, and 35 mph would be sensible.

It is quite frankly, BS. Speed cameras exist only to fill the city's coffers with more money to waste. Speed limits themselves are an outdated concept as most speed limits do not reflect the condition of the road. The cameras may increase the rate of accidents as people slow down abruptly because of the speed camera's prescence.
Red light cameras are worse. One city, I will source with link when asked, added a few seconds of yellow time and the tickets were reduced by 80%. Independent studies confirm that the red light cameras have no affect on safety and even increase the accident rate at some intersections. These companies that promote speed and red light cameras do not have the same human interaction as a cop would have.

They may try to file a lawsuit with the city .... however you know the city is going to push it over to the state and they may get a little for their troubles. As of sometime in March everyone who received a ticket didn't have to pay for it and I don't think many did who were caught on camera. Cameras shouldn't have been put up in the first place, our police are not out here catching the criminals the least they could be doing is writing out citations , but hey that's me.
