Default St. Bernard to Arabi, and Arabi to NOLA

I'm going to be living and working in St. Bernard with Habitat for Humanity. There's a SBURT bus that runs right by my house to Arabi. What I want to know is how far from that bus is it to the 88 streetcar to the French Quarter, and how safe it is to travel by foot from the Arabi bus to the 88 streetcar. Is it safe for a single female? What about a small group of people walking together?

What you want to do is catch the RTA bus in Arabi on the corner of Aycock and St. Claude/St. Bernard Hwy. and ride it all the way in to Esplanade and basically you are in the Quarter. Just walk up the street toward the river and make a right when you get to which ever street you are looking for. It's safe and secure, I rode that route for a few years back when I didn't have a car. I would recommend that late at night you should walk about with a companion, just as you would in any other city, but for the day time, it's perfectly fine.
