Want to move to Covington
All,
Hello I am a professional african american who works in the CBD and my wife wants to move our family from Kenner to the Covington-Mandeville area. A few of my white colleagues say it is a great place to live and I will have no problems with racism. Is that true? Need honest answers. Thanks in advance

Covington/Manderville is mostly white, and they wish to keep it that way. It's not that you are racist, but many of them are.

What about River Ridge?
Do you really need to move across the lake? Why does she want to move?

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are seriously considering relocating. We are looking at Covington or Manderville as an option. I was wondering if anyone can give me any idea of how competitive the teacher job market is? Is there housing available? What might be better areas to live in than others? Actually, any advice you can forward would be greatly appreciated.
WE currently live in NJ and to be honest things are NOT good in this state, our daughter lived in NOLA for a few years and we liked the area when we visited her. But we are open to almost anything at this point.

Puh-leez. Racism? Mandeville/Covington is a melting pot now. AND it has kept it's small charming community feel. As mentioned on some other threads, this area has become a little expensive (that's relative though). There is lots of stuff to do and the area boasts some wonderful schools. I think it is a great place to raise a family. School jobs are a little hard to come by because of the current economy, but it will come back. These towns have been steadily growing for the last ten years. Bring your boats and bikes. You will enjoy all the amenities of the lake and the "Trace," the old railroad tracks turned into a super long bike/walk trail.
PS- I know this post is from May, but it may benefit others.
