What do you do? "Workers" is way too general.
Living in the French Quarter is very expensive now and full of the San Francisco relocation gay community (not necessarily a bad thing, but you should know). In the 70's and 80's it was very affordable and full of eccentric artists and business owners. You might be able to room-mate with someone. The quarter, warehouse, and the marigny are relatively safe (The quarter the best and uptown around Magazine and St. Charles). I would certainly avoid central city, NO east, and the ninth ward.

You called a placed where 3-4 people get murdered a day a great place? A city with poor streets, racist, people, and a corrupt police department great? Yeah right. The city is installing more red light and speeding cameras. Didn't the times picayune publish a article saying more than 70% of the new cameras installed didn't even work? If you have been or lived there you will know New Orleans has the worst street in America. Certain parts of the city looks worst than Hati. I don't understand installing the camera when 70% of the previous ones don't even work. How about you guys invest in a better school system or streets. St. Charles where many of the rich live has unacceptable streets. Clean up the 9th ward! Get better professional police officers that can actually bring down the crime and not raise it. I was reading a rookie NOPD office was raping and breaking into hispanisic people homes ask for drugs. Is this a place you want to move to? Go to NOLA.com and read the crime for new orleans. There is at least 2 murders a day. Way more killing in a small city than in Iraq. Moderator cut: trolling I am glad they are raising the taxes and rent there for you non home owners.

1. Since when do 3-4 people get murdered daily?
2. What city doesn't have racists?
3. What city, on what planet, has a squad of 100% law abiding cops?
4. The red light cameras have always worked. Re-read that article please. (If it brings revenue, trust me they will make sure it works.) They were talking about crime cameras.
5. Name a section of this city that looks anything like Haiti! Do you even know what Haiti looks like?
6. The school system had been making good strides recently. (Let's see what happens when Jindal starts making cuts thought)
7. Most streets are being redone as I type or scheduled to be redone.
8. The 9th Ward hasn't been a problem for years.

1. Go to Nola.com and enter the crime section. There were over 25 murders for the month of April. I not making this up. More of the killers are the youth. 16-23. That's very sad.
2. New Orleans when compared to other cities have the worst. Ask people who live there. Lots discrimination.
3. New Orleans has the worst. Go to the 3 top Law Enforcement forums. no of the cops are will you move or start a new career there because of the bad reputation. Most police in other cities don't even look at the NOPD and a police department because of all the illegal stuff they get involved in. There was recently a investigation of a detective stealing 25k out the evidence room.
4. If the crime cameras that were just installed are not working what is installing red light cameras going to do if they don't function? Like I said before who is going to risk damaging their suspension speeding hitting all the pot holes in the horrible streets.
5. Most of New Orleans looks like Haiti. Look at the old wooden homes, abandon building and the roads. The streets are just horrible. There is no excuse for your roads to look like that.
6. The school system has always been bad. Lots of the teachers I had were under para and attended a magnet school. You guys should have voted Jindal out.
7. I am aware of that. My mother's street in front of her house was redone last month. This was over due. That could have did this over 15 years ago.
8. The 9th ward hasn't been a problem for years? Where have you been living. Thats where you had most of your crime. The 3rd, 17th, 10th, 7th, and 9th ward. That was your areas that had the projects. Moderator cut: no commenting on mod actions Stop hiding from the facts. Just own up that the city is corrupt and bad.

1. Provide a link, please.
2. This is based on?
3. These things happen in PD's everwhere. New Orleans is just "known" for it, meaning all of the attention is focused on NOPD. Saying that most PD's don't even recognized NOPD is just not true. Who do you think other PD's turn to when they need help with crowd control and etc. Do you know that Atlanta's police chief came from NOPD.
4. The crime cameras do not work. It was just a moneygrab scandal from the Nagin admin. The traffic cameras have always worked. Take a ride and count how many you see flashing.
5. New Orleans architecture does resemble colonial caribbean architecture but you should google Port-au-Prince and compare the living conditions there and see how much better even Post-K NOLA is.
6. I agree, Jindal needs to go. The Charters have been a huge plus and NOPS is improving. The state-run schools, however .
7. At least it's being done! How can you knock the city for a flaw that they are trying to fix?
8. The 9th Ward has been all but empty for almost 4 years now. Most of the crime in the area spilled over from The Florida and The Desire anyway and they were on the chopping block before the storm. If anything central city is the most dangerous place in the city.
I have never hidden facts nor have I ever denied that New Orleans had major problems. I often post about the cities problems and things that could be changed, etc. The fact is that things are improving. Most of the things you post are exaggerated and could scare people away who could come here and make a difference.
Can you unbiasly explain to me how New Orleans is so bad and Miami is so much better?

New Orleans Metro Crime and Police News - NOLA.com
Go in the Miami or broward county forums ( 15 mins from Dade County). People come from New York, Cali, Europe, Canada, and other parts of the world to live and buy property here. You don't see that in New Orleans. Trust me most people want to leave the city of New Orleans but or either too poor or just scared of change. Texas, Tennessee and other states like Georiga opened their doors to the people of New Orleans. What happened soon as the people of New Orleans got there? They started problems. Texas was mostly affected by this badly. Most of the people of New Orleans are located in SW houston. The NOLA natives started killing, shooting, fighting, and just hanging around living off that fema money. Most are still asking the government for more money and time to get their stuff together. Thats just sad. Its been almost 5 years!! Get off you butt and work. Its sad that people open the doors to another city and you didn't take a advanage of it. You ruined the repuation for others that were educated and that did something positive with the new opperunity. I read the Houston chron everyday back in 2006 and the natives of houston complained about the increase in crime, theft, robberies, and murders. I know this is true because my cousins live there and ATL and the people of TN said the same. My brother moved to TN after katina and started his life over as a Assitanant Manager for a circle K store. In New Orleans he was working on the Riverfront on the ship yard making minimum wage working very hard. Up to this day he has been promoted. States bent the rules to help these katrina viticms. I was one of them. When I got to Florida, I told people about my situation and they offered housing, employment, and even money. For that, I am greatful. Now, trying to get a job being from NOLA you have to have everything in check. Employers are not going to cut you corners because of the things you have done or experinced. The media really showed the bad and not the good of hurricane katrina. There were people taking food and things they needed to cook or eat with. Others were taking tvs and other electronics walking through 6 feet of water. lol. Sorry, I had to bring that up but that was just funny.

Hmmmm...I live in Los Angeles and I would consider moving to New Orleans. And I would never move back to Miami after living there for four years...just a little perspective.

Good luck. After you live there one year you will be running back to CA. On the history channel they showed a program about the worst gangs in america. Guess who was number one by the ATF and us marshalls? New Orleans. One agent said, the gang members are some of the ruthless they have ever seen. There are member that will kill to live for the next five minutes. I just want to inform the op on the dangers of moving here. Everyone always thinks this place is the greatest because what they see on tv like mardi gras. This year there was a shooting during a parade that killed 9 people. That the type of people you are going to deal with. They have no regards for human life.

No, there was not a shooting during a parade that killed 9 people. There was a shooting, no one died.
