Default Student Considering N.O

Hi, I am considering attending college in New Orleans and eventually settling down there. All I seem to hear from people is that New Orleans is a dump (Filthy, full of trash, run down buildings) is hot, and crime ridden. I have always wanted to live in the area, but am unsure about it. What was New Orleans like before Katrina and after?? Any info would help.

If you could, what percentage of New Orleans is bad or should be off limits? What percentage is nice? Thanks

Daniel

Daniel, as you've been told many times before, (since you're apparently trying to move to 10 places at once) perhaps you should visit New Orleans and see for yourself.
It's no more trashy or ghetto than most major cities.

cbass is on a distinguished road
If you think that Shreveport looks trashy then you will probably think that New Orleans is trashy because both have alot of older buildings, that are in need of repair. I did not think that Shreveport downtown looked trashy it was alot of older buildings that people have been refurbishing, and downtown comes to life at night. I lived there for about 9 months after I evacuated from Mississippi due to the Hurricane. I live a hour from New Orleans and frequented it alot when I was younger because of the 18 drinking age. My suggestion is look into the college at Natchitoches it is a quiet town with a nice riverfront area, the town is a old town but most of the houses have been refurbished and are very nice. It has that "old" Southern charm. They also have a wonderful Christmas Display of lights and firework shows. The town seems very relaxed.
