Speaking in a 10 - 15 year range.. NYC was clean when Giuliani was in office.. Well, as clean as a big city could be. But once Pataki got in. Forget about it...
But NYC can't be immaculate... Found some old pictures from the 1900's to 1910's when they still had horse drawn carriages. My family grew up on Mulberry St and that street had feces on it from the horses. It had no hygene..
As a matter of fact, I think that the 47th precinct was inthe top 3 in the whole city last year. Off the top of my head, Brownsville had more. Not sure how much ENY had. But suprise all BLACK neighborhoods on top.
And unlike Jordan and you...I frequent the 47th precinct often. The area of the 220's around White Plains Road is as bad as anything you'll find south. You feel like your life is in danger with all these armed Jamaicans controlling the flow of drugs. Anyone from the Bronx can vouch to this. One of the very few areas that I won't walk alone.
The houses are decent. But the area is very very similar to Southside Jamaica or ENY. There are even some very hot blocks filled with private homes.
Oh and it was top dog back in the mid 90's too. It was murder champ in 1995 with 46. In fact, it led the ENTIRE CITY. So this is not a recent phenomenon.
The 47th precinct was the murder capital of the Bronx last year.
The 47th was up there but not the capital in 2009.
42nd was the capital with 22 murders per 100,000
40th was runner up with 17 murders per 100,000
41st was 3rd with 12.76
47th was 4th with 12.08
It does seem as though the 47th wants the title however, as it's murder rate increase for this year is definitely putting it in contention. It's up 85% for this year vs. no change or decreases in the other 3.
I defended you. I mentioned that Hunts Point was 70% hispanic and had more crime than virtually any other neighborhood in the city. How quickly you forget.
What she posted up was bogus too.
But it still stands that GENERALLY AA neighborhoods are worse than Latino ones. You can't dispute this. When you have hispanic hoods like WH and JH and Corona with lower crime rates than SSJ, ENY, BW, BS etc
I am right near Corona and would be surprised if crime stats are lower there than in a majority black neighborhood of similar population size.
Look, what's the point in splitting hairs. I think we can all agree that Latinos and blacks (of all nationalities) live in neighborhoods with problems. Both groups have issues with poverty, crime and getting a quality education and decent jobs. I could sit here and pull up statistic after statistic to dispute your claims about black vs. Latino neighborhoods but at the end of the day it's not going to help anything or anyone. I am more interested in focusing my energy on building a better NYC.

The 42nd precinct is also majority African American. So further proves the point.
But when people say murder capital it's usually the raw numbers. Not the rates. I didn't say highest rate, but it was the murder capital. Look at any newspaper articles and it's always the raw numbers.

I'm in Corona every week and it's not that bad. Roosevelt ave has a surplus of cops...IDK why. I guess that's where all the crime occurs. But I've walked all that at 3 am and all you see is drunk Mexicans all over the place. It does have a gang issue but this doesn't usually lead to anything more than assault.
You think Corona has more crime than SSJ and Farrockaway?
Sigh why must I always be questioned? Would I say something if it was false?
All good researchers quote their sources. It helps for people to use the same sources when making claims because the same methodology is used. I am not attacking you
I will take a look at this. I am sure it will help me with my work.
Well it also seems that a lot of the Hispanic neighborhoods that have a lot of crime also have a significant black population. So it does seems that maybe crime is higher because blacks are present in that neighborhood as well?? Like if one of the Queens Hispanic neighborhoods or even Washington Heights had the same amount of blacks as the South Bronx or Bushwick, would crime go up? I think it will unfortunately. I think 'most' Blacks need to get away from the thuggish lifestyle so they can improve them selves and not bring neighborhoods down with them. I alway say that generation of kids listening to Rap/Hip Hop, especially black kids (since the music is predominantly black) does not help to shape them up to respectable adults.
