My husband and I moved to NC from NYC a few yrs. ago. Things did not work out there. We both had really good jobs in NYC on Wall St. We lost our home in NC and are currently living in FL. temporarily with my parents in 55 over community. We are coming back to NYC but he has to get a new job there and it's been a long proccess. We have lost everything and are basically starting over. We have 3 yo and one on the way which basically leaves me helpless right now since no one will hire me if I walk into a job interview pregnant.

We are on medicaid in FL so I can receive pre natal care. I have never been nor have I ever had to be on public assistance before. I do not plan on staying on it either. At this point it is the only choice I have. I just don't know where to start first. Will I be able to receive section 8 vouchers ? Does any one have any info they can provide about what steps to take? We can not stay here long and will have to go to NY and stay with friends temporarily. Can I start applying while I am still in FL for help in NY?

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you can't apply for assistance in NY while you're in FL. You will have to be a NY resident first. You may consider getting up here before having the baby since they may "fast track" you if you're pregnant.

Oh, and don't feel you have to give excuses about being on Medicaid while prego. If you have no other coverage, what are you supposed to do???

Best of luck to you and your family.

Check out the Section 8 situation carefully. It was closed for a while - ran out of money - but they may have reopened it by now.
