I recently spent about a week in Manhattan. I couldn't help but notice that everywhere you were - subway, street corner, restaurant - there were women absolutely everywhere, especially on the UES and UWS. 18-29 year old women in particular seem to be flocking to Manhattan like some kind of homing pigeon.
I also couldn't help but notice the almost total lack of 18-29 year old men. You expect to come to NYC and see a lot Bud Fox's from the movie Wall Street decked out in $2,000 suits, but men like these seem to be like elusive white rhinos, you hear a lot about them but when you look around there just not there.
There was an article on best city for men not to long ago, in the article had a breakdown on why nyc is great for men and they showed male female ratio and it was like 1:1.
Male New Yorkers are not particularly fashionable. Most look like they went to a clearance sale at Men's Warehouse. If you see man under the age of 30 in a sharp suit, he's most likely a European expat.

Yeah well, Manhattan is chic and women tend to be suckers for that sort of stuff more so than men, especially in that age range. It's the modern mecca of all things chicky. It's like Disneyland to a 6 year old.

I've never seen a guy walking around in an NYSE jacket or anything, but plenty of guys in corporate attire. The Bud Fox's probably hop into their car or a cab when they've got their work duds on. Otherwise they're probably dressed like any other bum you'd see walking around.

True. Almost any guy you see dressed in an extremely fashionable manner here is probably either gay or European.
1. NYC is one of the least sexist places in the country. We welcome women who are feisty and outspoken, and don't force them into conventional stereotypes.
2. The Seven Sisters are (relatively) nearby, so a disproportionate number of smart women gravitate here.
3. Some major fields that hired a lot of women are based here: fashion, publishing, etc.
4. Women are independent here, so are used to being out in public, even if they're not with a man.

Face it NYC is heaven for the Pretentious, Superficial, Fake crowds and this tends to be more a female thing than male although you have males in the running too....only LA is worse....
