People this is all hype and muchado about absolutely nothing. There is no more tension against Hispanics vs Blacks, then there is/was Italians vs Irish, or Protestants vs Christians, or Rich vs Poor, etc etc. There are always some level of us vs them in NYC, even as far as "this building vs that building" and this block vs that block. Don't believe the hype..it is the usual kids/knuckleheads..and nothing new or scary. You can all take a breath..you won't be stabbed or killed.
I grew up in a predominately hispanic neighborhood in the Bronx. As a black male the only so-called tension I've ever experienced is with older folks of PR and DR descent. Can't think of any race related tensions I've ever had with hispanic folks in my generation (80's babies). I am aware though that there have been some Black/Hispanic (mainly Central Amer/Mexican) tensions brewing in Long Island for a while. For instance the fights that took place in Hempstead High School a few years back.
Dominicians and Puerto Ricans don't get along for the most part.
Well, it is according to you, but the reality is that it's not true. Or better yet, it's no better than the Italian/Irish "skirmish", i.e. slick talk between some of them. But you can bet that they coexist peacefully. To the casual reader who doesn't know anything about both ethnic groups, your wording makes it seem that it might be something more.

Mexicans already have a substantial amount represented here. It won't be any much different when they'll reach the projected numbers in the future. Someone told me that you'll know when the Mexicans have officially "taken over" the "Hispanic" culture of NYC when the popular Spanish-language radio stations replace their music line-up of salsa & merengue to ranchera & Mexican pop.
I meant Protestants vs Catholics...good catch! Tensions between groups are usually just the kids/usual knuckleheads..if they are not feuding with this racial group, they are feuding with this building, or that block, or this family, etc. It is not indicative of anything other than the usual nonsense that occurs everywhere.
U know a lot of 2nd and third generation puertoricans living on the mainland aregalso mixed with irish. Up in the bronx many puerto ricans are mixed with italians. In castle hill there is many half indo guyanese and half boricua. It seems puerto ricans are cool with everybodym
i have seen a lot of half puerto rican and italian , and knew like 2 pr people mixed with guyanese.
and other white/pr mixes but thats about it though.

everything you say is reasonable except the second part, dominicans and ricans do have loads of issues with mexicans(mainly the young crowd).
every time you bring up the word mexican with some dominicans and ricans they start talking loads of garbage and if you call one of them mexican by accident they go off on you.
i recall one time a girl throwing a text book at me all cause i just asked "are you mexican?"
I think that has less to do with Mexicans, and more to do with the term itself, as if everyone who is Hispanic is simply "Mexican." Oh nice to meet you Jose Salazar, you must be Mexican right? Oh your Dominican, I love burritos..they are my favorite..can you make me some?..etc etc. Of course with the kids/knuckleheads, if you call them ANYTHING they go off on you..so they are not representative of anything.
There is NO beef with this group anymore than any other group. When groups live in close proximity they tend to have more problems just because they are constantly interacting, and nothing more.
From what I've noticed in 34 yrs. Is that alot of first generation Mexicans do tend to be racist twards blacks. Its a mental sterotype, and I believe an inferiority complex some mexicans have within themselves..But i know for a fact Puertoricans are a lot more warmer and accepting culture than most first generation Mexicans are..I've lived in Cali, PR, and NYC..So I've seen it first hand.
