My boyfriend & I are looking for a pretty cheap place to rent in the Bronx. We live in Yonkers now and need to find a place near the 2 train since it's an easy commute for both of us. We can afford to pay $950 right now. I know there are a few threads about finding a safe neighborhood in the Bronx but I'm not sure where they are in relation to the 2 (am really only familiar with the 4 train but that won't get us to work). I need a neighborhood where I won't feel unsafe walking home from the train alone. I don't need it to be as nice as, say, Katonah Ave. or County Club area, but I need it to be nicer than the 161st/Yankee Stadium area.

The best area along the 2 is definitely Pelham Parkway.I would say look in the area bounded by Waring or Mace Avenues on the North,Williamsbridge Road on the East,Brady or Neill Avenue on the South and Bronx Park East on the West.I am not crazy about North of Allerton along the 2 or anywhere South of the Bronx Park East Stop along the 2.

It's great, convenient and very safe neighborhood and you can either get the 2 at Pelham Parkway/White Plains Rd or at Allerton/White Plains Rd or the 5 at Pelham Parkway/Williamsbridge Rd or the 5 at Morris Park. You can transfer from the 5 to the 2 at 180th St if you wind up closer to a 5 stop. The Williamsbridge Rd and Morris Park 5 stops are only a 10 min walk from White Plains Rd anyway so you could either take the 5 and transfer at 180th or just walk to any of the 2 stops on White Plains.

You can probably find a real 1 br if you look hard. The best parts of the area are South of Waring and between Bronx Park and White Plains Road North of Pelham Parkway and South Of Pelham Parkway around Williamsbridge Rd.Lots of stores and lots of parks too.
