i know this has nothing to do with NYC, but since I'm moving there i thought I'd ask for peoples input.

I have NO furniture to move - if anything it is mainly me and the gf's clothing, wall hanging items, computer, monitors, dishes, and thats it. all boxable items.

i was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on the cheapest way to get items from our current location to NY. We are located in TX at the moment.

I might buy a van for this move and then toss it once we get to NY. I'm finding that the "PODS" companies lowest cost is $1300.00.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Don't do that, what if the van that you buy breaks down while your on your way to NYC? Forget about renting a van one way either.
Go the UPS route, is there a UPS Store near you in Texas. I have moved stuff from people before who were having it shipped out of state,
some of the boxes were pretty big, not sure about their weight limits though.

Your GF and yourself should fly to NYC and once you get here your stuff will be waiting for you at a UPS Store near your new place. Then find a man with van on Craigslist to help you move your stuff and then worry about buying the essential furniture items like a bed, chairs, table, etc.

Ditto vantastic. Or, do what I did: I sold all my big furniture and shoved all my boxes in my parent's garage. I had them all labeled clearly, so every couple of weeks, I'd just have my parents drop a box or two at the UPS store. It was a lot cheaper than mailing everything and once, and it gave me a chance to move in a bit more gradually, which was less overwhelming.

I haven't used it, but antique dealers on eBay have recommended Greyhound shipping for larger items.

Why was it cheaper? Is there a surcharge when you are sending a whole bunch of boxes at once?

No—I just meant I didn't have to spend $1k all in one sitting. Each $40 box got expensive fast!

If you fly southwest 2 bags are free. A box = a suitcase. Watch the weight, though.

Best of luck
