Default Former Mets, Yankees star Darryl Strawberry opening Queens eatery

Strawberry's Sports Grill starts serving customers on Thursday. I guess this grew out of his stint on The Apprentice.

But why Douglaston? With the transportation hub and massive economic development going into Downtown Flushing, I would have opened there. It's right near CitiField too!

I'm not feeling the location. We'll see.

is douglaston a family type area, that is further out in queens, sorry my keyboard is out of wack again, no question marks.

is this the type of area that is nice but much more affordable than manhattan. the type of area that people complain that there are no restaurants, its too far out, and that is why they won't live there.

doesn't flushing already have tons of restaurants.
this maybe the ideal place.

i am asking because all i know about douglaston is that it is on the queens/nassau border.

IMO, Douglaston has restaurants of this type already and more once you cross into Nassau County.

Downtown Flushing doesn't have much of the style restaurant -- mainly fast food and Asian fare. With Flushing Commons planned, I think I'd want my business close by.

Flushing Commons will be built on the site of a 5-acre parking lot on Union Street between 37th and 39th avenues. It will consist of 600 residential units, 235,000 square feet of retail and 185,000 square feet of office space, plus parking for 1,600 cars. It's also accessible from the 7 train and a ton of buses.

His partner is really using him because of who he was. Most restaurants go under very fast, even more so when partners are involved. From reading the article Strawberry was reluctant at first to go into the restaurant business and rightfully so.

I wish Darryl well, he was one of my favorite Mets as a kid growing up. Lee Mazzili, Rusty Staub,Bobby V and Mariano Rivera are baseball people who come to mind who used to or still own restaurants.
