He's sixty-ish, balding (but that doesn't stop him from growing a ponytail or from thinking that it makes him look LOTS younger), a political liberal who is vehemently against school vouchers but would rather die than send his kids to a public school...watches PBS a lot.

Yeah...that's about it.

I read an interesting article that says hipsters will be part of the decline of western civilization.
It basically says how there are no more avenues of "counter-culture" and that the hipster is basically a corporate born entity. For the most part they are zombies, oblivious to the irony that their culture has been basically fabricated.
Not sure if I agree wholeheartedly with that notion, but it's an interesting take on it nonetheless.

Default Why the Hipsters?!

Ok so what's the deal with the white folk moving into traditionally bad areas? LOL... I was talking to a NYC transplant recently and she told me that she was from AZ and has recently moved to NYC. I asked what neighborhood she chose and she said Bushwick. My immediate reaction was "Why Bushwick?!" She seemed a little taken aback by my blunt reaction...

She stammered and said "Well I wanted to live in Brooklyn." Again I asked her why? She didn't seem to know why she was here! Oh boy....

Hipsters seem to be attracted to gritty areas like williamsburg, harlem, mott haven, bushwick, greenpoint, les, fort green, dumbo and other gritty areas with waterfronts around the city. I just leave these steve jobs loving hipsters alone.

I don't see the problem with someone moving where they want. She wanted to live in Brooklyn. That's her reason for being there.
Just because someone is white, or a "transplant" or lives in a traditionally bad area doesn't mean they're a hipster.

of course she doesn't know why!! its a status thing. the social pecking order of hipsters is not unlike others, just different ambitions. the more sad and pathetic you look, the better. the worse n'hood you live in, the better.
