CaliYork, your post is optimistic... unfortunately the real situation is not as such, while bike lanes are getting built which is great, teachers are getting dumped on (mother is an elementary school teacher). A mosque (a whole other discussion) is allowed to be built next to ground zero... really? You want to keep this guy mayor...

oh and the comment about Monaco on the hudson is a bit ignorant...

I know there are many reasons to hate Bloomberg. But I actually like him. Will vote for him again. There has actually been dramatic changes in the city and is much cleaner and safer under his term. Lots of public projects happening and I like that he is getting involve with the school system. Some of it might not be working for some people here but at least he is making an effort. Nothing like that can be said for earlier mayors. I always hated Giuliani. So this mayor is much better than many mayors before him. So yes I like Bloomberg.

That was the State legislature's doing, not Bloombergs

As for the mosque, I see his point. Unlike countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran, our country preaches religious freedom. While I understand people being upset that a mosque is being built near ground zero, wouldn't it be hypocritical to prevent a religious building from going up for that reason alone. I'm not even sure the govt can legally stop it. I have to say that I'm not so sure about this issue with the rumors that it may be funded by radical groups/countries. If the building is a islamic institution preaching tolerance and preaching against extemism and terrorism, I'm fine with that. The developer needs to be more clear of his intentions.

I like Bloomberg, I don't always agree with him but I think the other alternatives would be alot worse.

I bet a mosque being built near ground zero will REDUCE the likeliness of a terrorist attack. A Muslim terrorist wouldn't dare destroy a mosque.

The building is 125 years old, if that doesn't make it landmarked, nothing will.
Who are these people in the landmark committee, i think i want to join and find out who actually does deceide when and how a building becomes landmarked.

I don't think every single old building is landmarked. Not sure what factors the commission takes into account though. Historic significance? Architectual design?

Well since you're allowed 3 terms now, I guess Yes. Don't think he will...I thought he was going to run for Governor or Senate but doesn't seem like he will...so why would he become mayor for one more term.
