That's an interesting thought. I think we're down to Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, or maybe Rego Park.

Let me second Chaca's recommendation.
You should nave no trouble finding a tolerable 1 Bedroom at $1100 or a VERY NICE one bedroom at $1400 in Rego Park with an easy walk to the M or R train.

For many years, my dad's station was 90 Street-- the one right after 82 Street Jackson Heights. In my opinion it was decent but I never knew the exact name of the area. Was it Elmhurst? E. Elmhurst? Jax Hgts? My dad didn't care. He liked the building itself (strong, solid bldg, lots of sqare footage and he had rights to the garage - not sure exactly how he managed to get all that) and like me he also thought the area was decent.

It's Jackson Heights to the north of Roosevelt Ave and Elmhurst to the south. Corona doesn't begin until Junction Ave (which would be roughly equivalent to 96th St.) On the Jackson Heights side, 90th St. is outside of the historic district, which ends around 88th St.
