For me, it was cool! I took my son last yr when he learning basic human anatomy and physiology in school and it really help him. I was told that the bodies were donated for education and research purpose.
While the notion of displaying the dead for profit is bound to provoke controversy, some critics say this particular show, which relies entirely on cadavers from China, is more troubling than those sponsored by other companies that have gotten into the macabre business of anatomical exhibitions. Citing the Chinese government's poor human rights record and the medical establishment's practice of recycling the organs of executed prisoners, medical ethicists and human rights advocates are questioning whether the show's specimens were legally obtained.
"I am certain that all these specimens were legally obtained," he said.
All of the show's promo posters have a "fine print" disclaimer to the effect that Premier can't personally attest to the "provenance" of the human remains in the exhibit. That seems to conflict with the above quote.
Since, in China, it is quite "legal" to imprison and execute political dissidents...possibly it doesn't.
Hey, got a nice gold ring for sale...I got the gold legally. It was extracted from enemies of the Reich...legally.
Sorry to possibly upset someone with that, but the Chinese Government does some things that are just as bad as what those Nazi bastards did, with, it seems, little comment from the "international community", whatever that is.
BTW, thanks for posting the link. I had not read that article; it was quite informative.
Actually, they do take random bodies. The website for this exhibition states that most of their specimens are unclaimed cadavers from China. Pursuant to Chinese law, if a body remains unclaimed for a certain period of time then they are automatically sent to schools for medical research. No one knows what the final wishes of these people were, most of the time they don't even know who the people were.
That being said, without a detailed study of human anatomy, the kind that only autopsy's and real human bodies can provide, then medical science would still be in the stone age. There is nothing wrong with having a visceral reaction, but literally billions of lives have been saved thru medicine and medical procedures that come from studying the human body.
If you really want to be skeeved out, you should look up the history of the book "Gray's Anatomy". It is much the same as this exhibit, and is the seminal work in the field. Also, if you are inclined, take a look at the Atlas of Human Anatomies. It GREATLY advanced medical research, as they were one of the first books to actually have detailed photographs of human anatomy. Unfortunately, most of the photographs were taken by Nazi doctors on living and unwilling Jews that were in concentration camps.

We all walk the earth, and we don't even realize the human suffering that preceded us, to get us where we are today as a society.
I can't remember where I was reading this, but it wasn't that long ago. It was an article that had to do with a cemetery in the midwest in the late 19th century. Medical students were digging up bodies and bringing them to their school to work on, and once the community realized this there was an uproar and the director of the medical school was taken to task for encouraging it. He didn't back down. He said his students needed bodies to properly learn how to become doctors and that he would only tell them to avoid getting caught.
I wish I could remember where it was and post a link.
Yes, of course. It would never occur to me to question cadaver dissections, or the use of bodies or body parts in medical research.
What bothers me is that it's an exhibition, like some carnival attraction. I find that disrepectful.
I could not have stated it any better than you have.
