Default Moving to NYC: questions on location, equipment, etc

Hello everyone, I'll be moving to NYC in about 3 weeks and I have some questions. I'll be looking to sublet with roommates and my budget is roughly around $650-850 arena. I've narrowed down my search to Ft Greene, Clinton Hill, Park Slope or Williamsburg areas. I'll be bringing multiple skills with me -- one of them is photography... fashion to be specific.

Camera equipment mobility information
In addition to my huge luggage of clothes and a backpack, I'm looking to bring a rolling case for my camera equipment/lights. I haven't bought the rolling case yet, but the dimensions of it is roughly 53.25" x 12" x 12"(HxWxD). I think when it's fully loaded, the weight should be around 55-75 lbs. Here in San Diego, when I have photo gigs, I would just load everything up in a car and drive to the location. Of course in NYC, I'm going to end up doing more walk/subway/bus(or combo of all 3). I sold my car so that's out of the question.

Here's a pic of the rolling case:

Here are some questions that I have on this:
1) Will I be able to travel in subways/bus with the dimensions of this case? Or will it be too big? The case won't be fully loaded all the time, on gigs, I'll bring what I need, depending on the type of shoot. I can only imagine moving this equipment during rush hour...
2) How safely can I travel around with this case in the areas I mentioned above? Obviously I know to be fully aware of my surroundings and that getting robbed can happen anywhere, but if I can reduce the chances ahead of time by living in a safer area, I'm all for that.
3) going back to locations mention above, can anyone suggest/recommend a specific area to check on? And what areas to avoid. Is my price range for sublet too unrealistic?

I'm also open to other areas of Brooklyn and also Queens. I just mentioned the above locations as a starting point.

Thanks in advance!

I can't speak to how safe it is to carry camera equipment around anywhere, I dont know much about it but I can tell you that I've seen people traveling on the subway with, at different points
a cello, appliances, coatracks, ironing boards, and my favorite, a floor to ceiling set of cages full of parakeets
I can't imagine your equipment causing too much of a stir.

Thanks for responding, yeah I looked up NYC MTA site and it just mentioned that I'm okay as long as the case doesn't take up too much space.
