You are going to love Lydig Avenue if you don't already !
It really has everything and has an almost perversely mixed population.I go there almost every day and still can't believe it exists. It's a piece of lost New York.

Bluedog, you are too funny. Why don't they just go ahead and appoint you the ambassador of Pelham Parkway?

Best to tell them I live near Mother Theresa Way, lest they be fooled--literally and metaphorically.

You have been right about so many things. Nice to know, after my Madison experience, that sometimes the hype is for real. I love Lydig Ave. This is going to be great. My eternal thanks.

Maybe you should write to the Vatican and claim that your being guided to Lydig Avenue and finding a perfect apartment was a miracle performed by Mother Theresa herself. I think they are still trying to document miracles to make the case for her sainthood.

Congratulations on the new apartment, Nala8. I am sure that you will enjoy the Pelham Parkway neighborhood!

Thanks a lot, bmwguydc. I am so excited. What a lovely neighborhood. Shops, cafes, restaurants, diners, groceries, parks, a variety of cultures, many public transportation choices, not too far from midtown (where I work), helpful neighbors, lots of space, etc. What more could I ask for? The folks in this forum helped me find this place. I am eternally grateful.

Thanks, SeventhFloor. Awesome forum. I had to handle it after that first awful week of trying to do this by myself pretty much as I would a job search: proactive networking online and in person, goal-setting, prayer, and perseverence. The city-data NYC forum rocks. We've become an authentic online community.

Now to pay it forward. The website that really turned things around for me was suggested by bluedog2: trulia.com. Let the renter beware though. Some brokers are out to take you for all you are worth--kinda gangster--while others honestly operate as middlemen (or women) or matchmakers for reasonable fees, making sure that there is good match between you as the renter and the property owner or management company in terms of affordability, size, neighborhood, amenities, and even personality. I am one happy and fortunate chick, but I won't quite rest until I sign the lease.
