Are they exempt from posting their calories (I thought it was state law). None of the chinese restaurants in my neighborhood (Harlem) post their calories.

I believe the law only applies to chains.

Ridiculous law. Should be all or none.

While I would prefer this practice abandoned...
If if we want to let people make equal and informed decisions, every restaurant should have this.

I agree, what is the logic behind making chains do this and not everyone else. In my neighborhood, chinese restaurants, albeit individually owned, are like a chain/monopoly.

chains have the money to actually hire dietitians to determine caloric counts. i dont think the average mom-n-pop diner or chinese take out can afford to do so.

7TH, you honestly don't believe a chinese restaurant makes enough money to hire a dietician to make a calorie assessment. Remember it is just a one time fee. My chinese restaurant food never changes, just the prices. I think you are underestimating how much money the average chinese restaurant makes. Chinese food costs just as much as Mcdonalds these days.

The difference is that McDonald's will pay this large one time fee and it will cover all of their thousands of restaurants. Every individual McDonald's location will not have to fee for this. The averge mom and pop shop that only has one location cannot afford this.

Not sure, but they sure as hell seem to be exempt from cleanliness. Haven't been to one in ages.
