New Yorkers are people who live and work in the 5 boroughs of NYC.

Native New Yorkers are people who are born and bred in NYC

Seems to me that you can be a New Yorker and be a Native New Yorker ...but being a Native New Yorker doesn't always make you a New Yorker.

I lived in California for seven years and never once did I ever consider myself a "Californian".

I always identified as a New Yorker and probably will for the rest of my life no matter where I live.

It's kinda like how the Romans could live in all of their conquered principalities for a time, but never would think to call themselves anything other than a "Roman".

This is how I feel about being a New Yorker. I will live and adapt to a new city, but I will never consider myself say a "nebraskan". *shivers*

Native, born and raised here.

I think the transplant rule is at least 5 years.

I know some non natives or transplants who do not know much about the city they live in, while others who been here longer do. I know transplants who do not cheer for NYC teams but their former state/city team (even when they are playing against NY ones at playoffs), while other who assimilated I know support NYC clubs.

What about people who are born in a different country, but come to the US (New York) at a very young age say (2 or 3) and have lived and been raised in New York all their lives?

That's clearly a new Yorker. My dad came here in 1980 from Haiti. He is a citizen and a new Yorker.

Born & raised in NYC. If you were raised, you still are a New Yorker.

So sad that there are very few New Yorkers left in New York. I don't think any transplants should be considered New Yorkers.

Transplants that have lived in NYC, especially the outer boroughs for more than 10 years are VERY much
New Yorkers.
