According to CBS channel 2 news crime has gone up this year for expensive gadgets on the subways.

When I ride the subways I'm amazed at how many people have their expensive gadgets out for all to see.

They say most are swiped from those standing at the subway doors just before the train pulls off.

The police department is offering a free service where they engrave numbers on your ipod (and other gadgets I guess) in case they retrieve it and it would be returned to you. This is offered at all precincts.

So be careful with your stuff while riding the trains.

That would significantly reduce the resale value of your gadget on ebay/amazon.

I'd rather have it and not be able to sell it than not have it and not be able to sell it.

It used to be called common sense. Apparently, these days it takes a report by CBS News before people scratch their heads and say, "Oh....right!"

I saw this dude with his ipad out on the 6 train at 3am last weekend. This large group of kids was eyeballing him. I half expected them to jump him and run off with it, but they got off earlier.

That's why I wouldn't get an ipad. I'll just use my old ipod to watch a movie.

I've seen people messing around with their overpriced gadgets and can just shake my head and hope they don't get robbed. What is sooo important that you just have to pull out your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, iPad or anything else on the subway???? If I'm taking a long subway ride, I usually grab a newspaper or a book or something. Half the time, I don't even read because I want to be able to keep an eye on who's around me and what's happening around me.

Against my better judgment I have been playing brickbreaker on my Blackberry on the train going and coming from work. And in the back of my head I am like are you crazy...but then I'm like screw it..I wanna play!
