Anon1 is Famous Accountants in Bushwick or Ridgewood? The border is not straight to it's hard to tell.

Their website lists a Brooklyn address and 11385 (Glendale/Ridgewood) zip. Methinks that it's really in Ridgewood but a Brooklyn address is more "cool."

Thing is... it might as well be in Brooklyn... It's right on the borderline next to the Myrtle/Wyckoff train station and I'm assuming this is the same link that you saw...

Where is Famous Accountants? « Famous Accountants

Here it shows how the location is almost on the corner of St. Nicholas and Gates which is the borderline between Ridgewood and Bushwick on that block... But it is still in Ridgewood though...

I love the way they say on the site... Bushwick, NY 11385... never knew Bushwick had a Queens zipcode... the lengths some people go to for advertising...

I have a theory: one of the reasons Ridgewood has not gentrified (just one) is that "hipsters" like a Brooklyn address. The "pre-city town addresses" used in Queens sound "provincial."

I hope it's more than those reasons... Ridgewood isn't perfect, but to me this neighborhood is fine as is... and doesn't need gentrification...

There used to be a very old white or Hispanic lady who lived
alone on Gates Ave, between Cypress and St Nicholas. She
would always stand at her building's doorstep staring at people
walking pass by intently.

One time she waved me over when I was on my way home
from school, and ask me to buy some items for her from the
supermarket about a block away. I did as she asked and went
home. When I told my older sister about it later on, it turns
out the old lady also asked my sister and brother to help her
buy items from the supermarket before, it seems like she always
ask young kids to help her buy stuff from the supermarket.

One day she wave me over again when I walk pass her building,
I thought she would ask me to buy things for her like usual, but
this time she ask me to help her clean some dirts for her because
she can't reach them. I followed her into the apartment on the
first floor, and she hands me a brush and Dustpan. She told me
to clean the dirts from under an old fashioned claw-foot tub in
the bathroom. I basically have to lie on the floor to reach under
the tub to do the cleaning.

After I finished and ready to leave her apartment, suddenly she
told me not to move, and started hitting my back repeatedly
from behind. Turns out she wanted to clean the dust off my
shirt. I was a little freakout by it, and avoided walking pass
her building for almost a year after that day.

When I finally went back to Gates Ave after some time, I was
a little nervous she would be at the doorstep waving to me
again, but was disappointed when I don't see her there anymore.
I always wonder what happen to her and feeling a little guilty
about it, because I never saw her again since.

Bumping this thread. Probably moving to Woodbine and Cypress very soon. Didn't look too bad during the day, anyone have anything to say about the area at night? I'm a pro musician, and I'll be getting in very late with instruments on my back and probably carrying an amplifier cabinet. Is that going to attract any unwanted attention? Also, I'm a skinny white dude. Not a ******* hipster. Am I going to get killed for my instruments and my organs? (only 3/4 joking)

And for context, the roughest neighborhood I've ever been in is Boston by Mass and Columbus. I come from living in the woods where the most dangerous person around is a housewife with triplets.

Are you one of these musicians

Real Estate +1 - YouTube

Hmmm... An is it safe question about a person moving into a crappy part of the neighborhood, makes sure to throw in the race card by saying hes a skinny white dude, and a musician to boot... now that really sounds familiar...

Either way, whether you are or aren't a hipster it really makes no difference... Fact is, Ridgewood itself is not a bad area but has bad elements to it and the area you are moving to is one of the hotspots for the neighborhood... That being said, I have been seeing a boatload of those hipster musicians probably from Bushwick and Williamsburg going to K&K buffet near that location for performances... (The lengths businesses and everyone else goes to cater to these people really is amazing)... I've known salsa bands and other spanish bands that have wanted to play there before and got rejected...

But yea, that area normally isn't too good especially during the summertime but I guess it's getting press now so who knows... If you do move there, just be aware of your surroundings and know that there are alot of ghetto people that live around there and spanish music and hiphop will be blasting a good amount of the time...

Just trying to give you an idea of my ethnicity and my experience. Sorry I offended you . . . . ?

And I abhor the music you posted up there.

Thanks for the advice though. As far as things that actually happen to people on the streets there, can you tell me what some of them might be? I am a serious country boy here, and I don't know what to expect. Harassment? Muggings? Worse? I'm in the dark here, and I appreciate any detail you can give, whether its personal experience or anecdotal. I see a lot of things like "Just be cautious and you'll be fine." Fine from what exactly?

Sorry for the first response... you mention the word hipster it just gets me going... It's not so much about what they are about as it is how they act around people who they don't relate to... And this isn't all of them but so many of them have this air of superiority as if they are so much better than us New Yorkers for whatever the reason and arrogance above everything else just ticks me off...

Anyway, getting back on topic... Violent crime does happen around there but generally it is isolated... You'll see groups of guys that look suspicious hanging around on corners from time to time or walking the streets... Try to stay away from those guys if you can... Sometimes you can't avoid it but if you can cross the street in a way that doesn't bring attention to yourself then do it just to avoid any drama...

In addition break-ins do happen around there more frecuently than other parts of the neighborhood... While I live on himrod I remember preaching that territory and a number of buildings had posted up signs about not letting any people in due to the recent string of break-ins around there... This was late last year...

Other than that you don't strike me as someone who would be carrying an iphone or macbook on the street @ 11pm so property theft shouldn't be a problem but as I've mentioned just take precautions with your items... I know this may make it seem like a bad neighborhood but in reality it really isn't it's just a decent working class neighborhood with a bunch of people just trying to make ends meet...

No worries man. I definitely understand your feelings about those who shall not be named. They invaded my college and made a lot of classes pretty unbearable.

All good stuff to know, thanks. As far as etiquette, do you avoid eye contact on the street? Do you want to avoid looking like you're avoiding them? If someone confronts you, should you be friendly, or try to duck someone?

Sorry if this sounds silly! I'm a real noob here.
