Hello, I am European girl visiting NYC for the first time.
I will be arriving around 8.30 pm at JFK's airport and I'm staying in Great Kills in Staten Island. What are the cheapest but also the safest (considering the time I will be arriving) ways to get there? I am just little concerned about safety - I am young and travelling alone.
(I apologize for my bad English..It's not my first language)

have someone you know from staten island pick you up? Why would you stay on staten island if you are visiting from europe? Public Transportation on and off the island is limited, so you will end up spending more money in the long run.

Cab-seriously. I live on SI. A cab won't be cheap (maybe like $50) but it's honestly the quickest and safest way to do it. Otherwise, you will be on a million different modes of transportation.

CHEAPEST would probably be to take the A train to Manhattan, transfer to the 5 to Bowling Green at the Broadway-Nassau Fulton St. stop, walk a few blocks down to the ferry terminal, take the ferry to SI, then the SIR to Great Kills.

Granted this is going to take a long time, but it is the cheapest. However to somebody visiting from Europe for the first time, I would probably take a cab.

Just take the cab, it's about $50. There is a cab stand outside every terminal in JFK, there you will be directed to youre cab.

JFK Airport Taxi

Is there not a bus that goes to the airport there?

... out of curiosity?

JFK is a safe place, and things rarely go bad on buses. How do people from SI get to the airport?... or do they generally fly Newark?

Flying out of Newark would probably be even more expensive than JFK, if you were going to use a cab. Seriously, if you don't want to use mass transit, then a cab might be your best option.

I really don't think there's an unsafe way to actually get there. But the cheapest might be to take the Ferry with your luggage (if possible) jump on the uptown 1, transfer to the A to JFK and take the Airbus. All of that will probably run you under 10 bucks and get you there within an hour or so.

otherwise, if you can get to Manhattan, you can take a private bus company to JFK for a little more than $20.
