I know there are a lot of locals and newbies always searching for roomies/have rooms available but craigslist is a scary place to find individuals (trust me!). I came across this cool site that brings both sides together in a bar environment where you can meet, socialize, trade information safely and also have fun. I think it is a pretty cool concept and they were written up in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/03/re...d%20nyc&st=cse

They have free events in almost every borough and they now have an uptown event at Lenox Lounge for Harlem/Southern Bronx/Heights for us, so if you are seeking a roommate, or have a roommate available, check it out. The locations and dates are below..and they are also on facebook under Roommates Wanted NYC:

I've shared many times. I like living alone.

Interesting idea. I think the location matters more then anything though. If you like the apartment and you think you can co-exist with the person the apartment matters more. I've been living with roommates off and on for the past 10 years. Strangely enough I've only had 3 that I really hung out with, and none of them I've kept in contact with afterward. 2 of them I hardly ever even saw. They came home, cooked dinner, retreated into their bedroom and turned on the TV or computer, and their only other appearance the rest of the evening was walking to the bathroom. Someone you'd actually hang out with is a plus, but a person that respects your property and personal space and stays out of your business can be better.
