I think they are nice, and yes they are now pricey. It can be kinda weird walking around the Southern Bronx, as one block can have the old tenement buildings in various levels of condition, the next block can have newer suburban style homes that are completely out of character with the neighborhood, the next block can have a new 5 story mixed income building with parking, elevators, terraces, lobby with front desk, gardens, etc, and the next can have the original brownstones!
The Midwood section of Brooklyn not only looks like a suburb, but it feels like one. Show people photos of some of the streets around here, and you can get right into an argument with them when they don't believe they're looking at Brooklyn. And you can say the same thing for the Victorian Flatbush district.
