SKIP, SKIP, SKIP, SKIP the Times Square ball drop. Unless you have a good high rise to see it from or something. It's one of the most overrated events in NYC.

the ball will fall and then these people will leave and go somewhere.....all at the same time.

I would rather eat a bowl of razor blades with gasoline.

Watching the ball drop in Time Square will be fun as first time.

But remember, temperaturer are around 0 C/32 F (Sometimes colder, or sometimes milder).
No bathrooms, no food, very crowded !

If you want less crowded, and more fun... go to Central Park or East Manhattan (Brooklyn Bridge) to watch midnight fireworks !

The ball drop is one of those things to do at least once before you die, but all i can say is that Times Square is packed full of tourists, no bathrooms, cold/rain/wind, wait for hours and hours then it is over. It's not like it is in the movies.

Read The New York Magazine for December, buy the NY Post, for Friday, December 24th. Both should give you an idea as to what to do. Welcome and enjoy NYC.

I wanted to do it last year and go on Time Square, but forget about it. You have a MILLION people in the area, and IF you want a good/decent spot, you gotta get there 24 hours in advance or else you are screwed.

Best place to watch the ball drop is in the comfort of your couch watching Katy Griffin make a fool of herself on CNN

These things are all true. But actually being there and experiencing the event is something everyone should do once, at least. (And there won't be a million people in the area; not enough room. The perimeter the police will rope off accommodates about half a million, not more!)
