Wow thats crazy, my philosophy was this, if you live in throgs neck area its best to work and liesure in queens or long island which is not so far compared to Manhattan. IF you live in Woodlawn then work and liesure in Yonkers. If you live in Wakefield, Baychester and Coop City its best to work and liesure in Pelham Manor and not Manhattan cause its to far. It really makes no sense to hop on a 2 train from 241st or on a pelham bay station 6 train and take it to the city during work in downtown manhattan a long trip and back. Could be worse duing the twlight hours of the morning heading back to the outskirts of the Bronx by train which is the worse. One of the best things about the lower South Bronx is its close proximity to Manhattan your in and out.
I totally get what you're saying but most of the activities that I do or in Manhattan nowadays. Sometimes if I'm REALLY beat from partying I'll take a cab back home. Like I'll go a little past the south Bronx, get off and take a cab. If I had a car, things would be much easier but I don't right now so yeah. I would hang out in Westchester but its simply just not the place I hang out at most times.
To get pernil. There is a Puerto Rican chucifrito spot on 149th between morris avenue and Courtlandt its right next too a baskinrobin and dunkin donuts establishment. This chuchifrito spot really has some good pernil with some tomillio which is spanish for tyme and garlic on the pernil. They also sell some delicious bacalao cakes. There is also another chuchifrito spot on 148 and willis avenue which is also good aswell, they sell some really good papas.
The one on 148 and Willis is the one that has great mondongo and nice hot morcilla. Does anyone know where I can get cuajos in the Bronx? The stuff is great but hard to find.
The area used to be highly distressed and dysfunctional lots of "undesirable elements". But its improving. The last thing on my mind is food when Im in South Bronx. But is nice to hear that so many of you seem too enjoy "ethnical food and dishes".

i'll be back there on monday and will check out the place nr dunkin donuts. i'm not far from there. thanks!
Wow I live very near to E. 149th street and Third Ave lol. Well that place is great. Many businesses around. It is not bad as it used to be.
Something I've noticed in that area is the large police prescence and arrest or search of the "corner" people. What are these people getting arrested for? It doesn't seem to be drug related but I could be wrong.
