i'm born in NYC and i will most likely die in NYC. love it and never leaving. i will visit many places in my lifetime but new york is home for me. i love the rat race, the crowds, the crime, the good bad and the ugly. i love my yankees, knicks, giants, and drty hot dogs. love the subways and love the projects too. i love eating 200 dollar dinners and seeing the hood all in one day. its NYC and its beautiful. thats my pride.

I've lived in NY all my life (57 years) and worked in NYC for over 30 of them. I hate the City. It's unbelievably over crowded, too many people are rude and down right nasty (not all mind you but enough to make me sick!) Expensive doesn't even begin to touch on how ridiculous it is and crime is once again getting worse and worse despite what jerk face Bloomburg tries to sell you. It does have tons of stuff to do almost any hour of the day or night but overall it sucks. I'm so happy I've retired and never have to go into that mad house again. I'll be much happier when I move out of the State all together.
I don't understand how you can possibly love crime.
i dont understand how you could take that literally and not read into it as me accepting the good and bad of the city instead. learn to think outside of the box a little.

I am able to think outside the box, but I just think you could have stated it differently. Learn to not tell me what to do.
My take is this, NYC is like having a girlfriend, I like you, but I dont love you.
Interesting observation. I've often compared living in NYC to dating a supermodel: Beautiful, sexy and status-enhancing but at the same time demanding, expensive and difficult to deal with.
I couldn't hate New York. I felt like a new person the first time I went there. And the second time, and the third time...
Buuutttt since then I've seen the way our culture is infused with New York mania and the place just came to feel so discovered. More importantly, I found a place I liked better, but that's another story.
I'd say the busy pace of things is both the best and worst thing about your city. On the one hand it's energizing, but on the other hand you look around and everything looks "busy" rather than pretty.
