Hi,
I am bringing my boyfriend to NYC. It is his first time there. Can someone please give me some suggestions of what to see and do while we are there.
I definitley will take him to Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Bldg., but what else do you suggest we do. We are leaving by bus this Saturday and will arrive at 8:30 am and will be there until 2:30 p.m. Any romantic places would also be appreciated. I am trying to make the most of my time here.
Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

All that in six hours? Just getting to some of those places will take at least an hour. Also, why Cold Stone? It's a national chain... Hardly a destination.

Anyway, skip either ESB or Rockefeller City... You don't need to do both. Top of the Rock has a better view and the tree is up, so that's fun. Since he's never been here, you should probably walk through Times Square (shudder), then I'd head downtown to Greenwich Village. Lots of historical stuff, Washington Square Park, great food, etc.

Six hours really isn't a lot of time... I feel like it would best be spent just wandering around, as going to a museum or something will eat up a good chunk of time.

Since you mention Rockefeller Center, you might want to go and see the view from the Top of the Rock Observatory (at Rockefeller Center) instead of the Empire State Bldg. You should also stop by Radio City Music Hall (next to Rockefeller Center) and go through Times Square (which is between Rockefeller Center and the Port Authority Bus Terminal). Another great bldg. in the area is the NY Public Library main bldg. on Fifth Avenue between 40th-42st Streets. On its upper floor are some free art galleries. Behind the NY Public Library bldg. you might want to stop by Bryant Park which has a beautiful ice skating rink in the winter as well nice little booths with different things to buy. Bryant Park also has a merry-go-round (although I am not sure it is active in the winter.) I think that Bryant Park might be considered a romantic setting.

With only six hours to spend, including the trip to-and-from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, (I'll assume) you will need to stay focused. I would say, walk around midtown (5th Ave. Times Sq. etc.) and check out the store windows displays for the holidays. Grab a hot dog or something you can walk and eat, because you won't have much time to stop. If you have your heart set on the ESB or Top of The Rock, go for it, but it will eat up at least an hour of your precious little time. Take in all the sights and smells of Midtown -- the chaos, the noise, the crowds. It's always busy, but this time of year, it's insane. Then, check out the antithesis of all that by strolling into Central Park. The sheer dichotomy of it all is unmatched anywhere in the world -- truly from one extreme to another -- and definitely worth it to see. If you have time left over, you can make your way back to the bus station area -- ride a few stops too far, down to Chelsea and stroll along narrow streets filled with art galleries and cafes. But, don't linger too long or you'll miss your bus.

Typically, a "layover" like this isn't good for much more than a quick business meeting over lunch. Honestly, you'll be frenetic trying to squeeze even the open-ended things I suggested in this schedule. It will give you some post-card-like memories of the few hours you had in The City, though. Good luck.

Don't try to do too much.It will just make it less enjoyable.
Rockefeller CTR,Top of The Rock,5th Ave stores and windows, maybe a bit of Central Park,Times Sq, and a bite to eat is about all you will have time for.
Do not attempt to leave the midtown area because there just isn't enough time.

Six hours isn't enough time to visit outside Manhattan. In midtown area, besides the ESB and Rockefeller Center, you've got the famous flagship Macys, Grand Central Station, Times Square, the Waldorf-Astoria hotel (the lobby is huge and very cool), Trump Tower with Tiffanys right there (the flagship store on 57th and 5th, very cool), The Plaza Hotel (and Central Park is right there). Perhaps walk west to Columbus Circle. Or from Times Square walk east to the United Nations.

Outside of midtown maybe the Wall Street area, or Greenwich Village.

Default What about this

Thank you for the responses. After looking at a map (We are getting dropped off at 7th St.) Taking the Megabus, What do you think of this schedule?? -First thing to to Empire State Bldg. (Buy tickets online), then head over to Macy's window fronts, Times Square/Rockefeller Center, a quick stop in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park and a really fast cabbie to get us back to the bus. What do you think?

Are you sure the mega bus doesn't drop you off at 7th ave and 27th street and not 7th street? it's a big difference. I am a regular mega bus rider and that seems like it's incorrect.
