Was looking thru the craigslist ads at apartments and boy, what scams out there... Love how the 2 bedrooms are really 1 bedrooms, etc...
does anyone know of any real apartments for rent on the UES that doesn't involve brokers??
My budget allows up to $1800 and I would really like a 2 bedroom but I know I can't be too chosey with that price range. I also saw an ad for a 2bedroom over at River Crossing but have no idea about those apartments...
Any leads would be great..
Thanks for your time.

I think Craig's is the best resource. Yes, there are a lot of scams, but once you have visited a few apts in your chosen neighborhood, you will be able to spot the scams easily.
Really? What street is it on? I looked all over the UES and could barely find a 1 bedroom for that price, and I looked along York, 1st Ave, etc.
94th and 2nd Avenue
75th and 2nd Avenue
They were small 2 bedrooms though but for the price though, I can't be picky.. They didn't allow pets which knocked me out of the running...
Have you tried the apartments on 78th and 79th on York, City and Suburban? You can walk right into their office on 78th street without a broker (craiglist has brokers trying to take u there for a fee but it free to go yourself)... They have lots of one bedrooms from 1650 to 1950, some are small 1 bedrooms but they include all utilities execept for your cable and internet which isn't a bad deal..
Yeah, prices along 2nd Ave are depressed right now because of the ongoing construction of the Second Avenue Subway. Hope you like noisy construction...
Anyway, a 2BR for $1800 is doable almost anywhere in Manhattan, even the really hip neighborhoods, but the apartment will be tiny.

Oh really??? Please tell me where in Manhattan you can get a 2BR for $1800 that's not a studio with a pressure wall in the middle and being called a 2BR.

let me know if you need the website.
All this sounds to good to be true. Decent one bedrooms start at 2000.
Also, electricity is almost never included in rent.
I currently live in the city and suburban apartments and yes, the electricty, gas, heat and hot water are included in my rent over here. It a nice one bedroom for under 2000 but I really want my own bedroom...
The noise on 2nd avenue doesn't bother me, my main thing is my child going to a good school..
