Bed-Stuy!
Hey! I've decided to look at an apartment in Bed-Stuy today. It's at Throop Ave and Hancock St. How is this area?

The main issue is that you'll be away from the subway and supermarkets. However, Buses B43 (Throop and Tompkins Avenue) and the B52 (Gates Avenue) service the area, with the B26 down the block south at Halsey and the B38 (Lafayette and Dekalb) north of you.
You'll need to catch the B43 to Fulton Street to catch the A, and get to the Foodtown supermarket at Restoration, plus the B43 to Flushing and Broadway to catch the J,M and Z.
Oh, yeah, you must pronounce Throop "Troop"!

Oh, by the way, I didn't say move into the pj's, although that punk rock show is two blocks away from Tompkins Houses. CBGB's in Bed Stuy!

Bed-Stuy, DO OR DIE!!!
I think they got a new motto. They finally felt that "Do or Die" was bringing the neighborhood down, out of everything. Nice timing/issue on their part.

First video is not in the PJ's, regular tenement.
Bed-stuy is rough. When I do go through there I see gang members showing colors and beads. Vacant lots and borded up windows. It's nothing new. Crime is common in the area. There are shootings and murders over drugs and disputes. Robberies. It's poor. Drugs.
Might as well let the OP know it's far from roses. It is important if he does move into Bed-stuy he lives in a secure building. Either new construction apartment building or a brownstone with bars on windows, alarm system, heavy doors.
I'm sure the OP will be fine, but it's not exactly a neighborhood to take a midnight jog.
