Have to add to the pile on. Virgil's is awful. Fine for people who don't know better, but a travesty to anyone who has travelled to or is from the South.
I know this is an old thread, but we're planning a short trip to NYC this summer. This thread has been very, very helpful. The 3-day itinerary was just what I was looking for. There is so much to see and do that it is difficult to know what to add and what to cut. It's very helpful knowing how to get from place to place, too. Aside from some of the "must-see" things, it's nice to know things to do and see that give a better flavor of the real NYC.
I used to live in Alaska. There are certain things that, although "touristy," are definitely worth seeing, such as Denali National Park, and things that are well-known, but may have better, lesser-known alternatives. And there are things that are "must-see," but few people know about them. For example, I'd recommend visiting Denali, even though it's very touristy. However, instead of taking a tour bus into the park, I'd strongly recommend taking one of the shuttle buses. Not as comfortable, but just as informative (perhaps more so), more fun, and cheaper. (Child's Glacier is also a must see place -- expensive to get to, but something you will never, ever forget.)
Anyway, thanks, again for the itinerary.
Cheers,
Patrick
