DR seems mired in a faux Spanish culture with hints of West African. Other WI cultures have obvious ties to South Asian, West African, Northern Europe and even hints of East Asians culture. When it comes to culture (way of living) the Carribean is a melting pot, this includes DR as well. However there are other WI counties much more diverse culturally than DR.

You truly are clueless, and I mean it with the utmost respect. I suggest you stop being so close minded and educate yourself about Dominicans. If you are Asian, then you all look chinese to us. If you are white, then you're white. No matter Irish, German, France..you're white.
Time to play a little game Nevets!
The above three sets are either Puerto Rican, Cuban, or Dominican. Guess which one is which?
I don't mean to come at you wrong but generalizations without substance (which is what you're doing) gets aggravating. Dont say things just to say it. But as to Dominican culture, look at the prior posts. It's much more than just Euro...and more diverse than the W.I.

My man right there.
Our economy is booming. In terms of GDP, we've been positive for a few years now.

It's funny because everyone cracks on our spanish lol. We talk with swagger, which is why we're the butt of all jokes but in reality people enjoy the accent and the words we use because it's so different. Nice spanish too, you're getting there bro.

Woah, suspect!
Just kidding, but like I said, I never heard of the W.I parade until this board.

I am in total agreement with you. You can't defend those statements. He does not know what he's talking about. I wonder if he's ever seen a PR in his life.

Besides all of the music you named is African influenced.

I would've loved to show love at the DR parade too but it ended to quickly. Plus 3 million people attend the WI parade. All this my island is better than yours and describing us as blacker and blacker as though black is something repulsive is ridiculous. You guys have a wonderful culture which I can appreciate but you can't keep downplaying your African heritage it does you a disservice.

You came at me right, and you seem to have knowledge, unlike the others.
Bachata is much bigger in Latin America than reggae. Latin America and Spain are a pretty large portion of the world. I'm not gonna say that in white/black America or the West Indies bachata sounds. But you ask anyone Latin person about Aventura and I guarantee you they would know who they are. Go to the middle of Peru and ask them about Bob Marley and they're gonna be like huh? I tell you this because I am exposed to all kind of Latinos and all of them tell me how much they love bachata. It has gone mainstream. I've seen African Americans dance bachata aswell, it doesn't mean much.
I embrace our African heritage and apologize to you if I came off as a rascist. Dominican culture wouldn't be so fun if it wasn't for the African, as I believe European is boring. When I said black, black, and blacker, I didn't mean to come off as a rascist, I was just trying to get across my point.

Not everyone is, but they're either a shade of brown or darker, not what I would call diverse. And those W.I parade pics didn't help you.
I just want you to realize that the Dominican is more diverse than the W.I. Hell, I admit that Brazil is probably more diverse than the DR but that's about as far as I would go.
I know my people, and just came from the island. I know what I saw.

No, I'm sorry you misread. I was talking about the Guyanese looking South Asian. Many of them are originally from India. Cubans and Puerto Ricans have more European influence.

I'm not a fan of Reggae and will take the melodic sounds of Bacchata over it any day but there is no doubt that Reggae has more world influence and is a more well known.
That's what I find disturbing about many Dominicans. When I first met my gf at a party, I alluded to her beauty being enhanced from being black. Her comment to me was "I'm not a N#####." So often I've heard denial of their black hertiage or nasty comments like the ones used by SuperMario. It's pathetic.

Exactly! These are middle class areas, Canarsie, Flatlands, Wakefield. Mostly blacks from the Caribbean. Most traditional AA that are middle class live in the burbs but what areas would you say is middle class and dominated by traditional AA? My guess only parts of Harlem and maybe COop City.
