Advice on Moving to NY :) (Hope: broker, construction, to live)

Hello everyone.. Hope all had a very merry xmas..

Just looking for some info on NY
I'm thinking of heading out to NYC in March/April, save up some cash and head out for a bit. I'm 22 and originally from Ireland and would love to spend a few months in NY. Just some advice on Visa's and that if you could? I'm mainly looking for construction work (plasterer) or Barwork, both of which I have experience in.
I understand it won't be easy.

I do know people out there as "aliens" and have been for a while now, but I would prefer to go the legal route if at all possible. If not, I'll just head out for a month or two to get a taste of NY

I moved to NYC from England in the fall, the most scary thing for me was the thought of figuring out where I was going to live. I had no idea about what areas were good/bad in the city and really had no idea what I was doing.
