Exclamation School of Visual Arts--any insight?

I am currently looking into the School of Visual Arts for photography, and was wondering if any of you could give me any insight as to their reputation or quality of education.

I know LITTLE about the school, except that it SEEMS to have a top-notch photo program. Also, if you could give me a word or two about the area in which the school is located, that would be of help also!

ANY feedback is much appreciated!!

Thanks
Stephanie

SVA is a very good, and expensive, school geared toward industry and commercial art. It has an excellent reputation and competes with Cooper Union's small (but equally excellent) art program. NYU and New School have similar offerings, but I think the SVA program just has a "sharper" edge to it.

The area- 23rd btwn 2-3rd aves, I think, is a great area with easy subway access.

My friend went there. She said she got a real good education there, but said she didn't fit in because a lot of the kids took drugs. She ended up leaving the school and going to a local community college on Long Island.
