When I lived in baltimore I WAS a yuppie, or so I thought. I did not get $$ from my folks, did not do anything related to art other than occasionally go to a museum or gallery (and my tastes were not up to the minute) I did like those latte places when Bmore finally got them.

Here in Dee Cee we have gads of folks I THINK are yuppies, but precious few who seem like "hipsters"

I am told in NYC they are the same thing. Though I thought hipsters disliked yuppies.

Please clarify this confusing situation.

I think hipsters quite possibly dislike life. They seem to be anti-everything. Except toking up on maryjane. Oh, speaking of MJ, yuppies really can't involve themselves with it (although many would if they could) because they get drug-tested at their corporate jobs. There are numerous clear differences in my book.

LOL

I am just walking out my door. Wanted to check the forum one more time. You're truly going all out with your defense of these twirps with these latest two threads. Have fun.

(I'm gonna post this on your other one)

I've read here before that a "hipster" is the offspring of a 'yuppie' and "hippie".

I, for one, dislike both. They're so annoying in so many ways.

There is a small group of bona fide hipsters. There is a larger group of ultra-well-educated progeny of upper-middle-class professionals (arguably the true "gentry") who frequently cross paths with middle-class creative-types. Then there's an even larger group of affluent financial types who want to look like creative-types. All of these people are frequently, yet erroneously, labeled as "hipsters" by the average layperson on the subway. “Hipster” thus becomes a code-word meaning: young, white and rich.
