we are 3 (with 15 year old "hard to please" son) visiting the city for one day Saturday -- New years day. Will go wait in line at the TKTS booth near Times Square....

What kind of price range should we expect to spend per ticket to a broadway show matinee? (Rock of ages, American Idiot, Mama Mia, etc.)

I don't know current prices (last time I looked Broadway shows were about $50) but I just wanted to say: do not take your 15 year old son to see Mama Mia. He will hate it. Unless he loves ABBA for some reason.

Here's the link to TKTS: TKTS Discount Booths

You can get tickets there anywhere from 20 to 50% off.

Regular priced B'way show tickets can range from $60-$130, more for popular shows.

You might be better off to choose the show you want and see if you can get discounts at any of these sites:

www.broadwaybox.com
www.playbill.com
www.theatermania.com

You can print out the discount code and go straight to the theater box office rather than wait on the TKTS line. Keep in mind (even with TKTS), there may not be seats available at every show because the discount tickets are for select seats (from orchestra through mezzanine or balcony).

Oh, and for a 15 year old boy? I would try Rock of Ages before anything else.

I don't know. Rock of Ages is 80's rock. The kids dig Greenday. I know 15 year olds who have really liked American Idiot.
