This thread is not about gentrification it's about your naivetivity (sic) and ignorance. Gentrification is inevitably good or bad for a neighborhood. Your blanket statement that it is good for NYC is simpleminded.

Did you read the title, MY thoughts on gentrification. Everything I have stated is through my eyes. I just wanted some opinions, not to be targeted for a different view.
Though after reading the responses and some thought I have come to some true, non biased conclusions:
-Gentrification is good for me, who will own property in NYC. Higher income earner, upper middle class professional. I will benefit from better retail, less basic social problems, more interesting housing. I still see art and diversity even in areas that have long gentrified. They are still very New York to me in their own way.
-It is good for the permanent poor (Projects). They won't be displaced. They reap the benefits.
-Not all PRs (or Latin Americans) are colored either, it's not a race thing or cultural. It's economic. Plenty of Black, White, Anglo, Hispanic, straight, homosexual, immigrant, native, and everything else gentrifiers.
-It really is hate it or love it. There is a lot of bias and agenda.

Yes, his/her post was great food for thought, however I take umbrage with his/her use of the word "Billyburg" because it's a slap in the face to old-time residents who grew up there and NEVER called it that. It sounds like dude where's my car [puke] and has a pro-segregation ring to it, imo. (As in, out with the old, in with the new, even in terms of the neighborhood's *name* for God's sake. That's where the slap in the face comes in)
And just for the record, generally speaking, I don't think later waves of gentrifiers "ruin things". Ya can't ruin something that's already ruined. In fact, in a way, I welcome white collar types because you're kinda sticking it to the fauxhemians who stuck it to others by riding the coattails of the truly cool. Karma full circle.
