Inside the Diego Beekman Houses. The tenement was in quite good condition from outside, and inside well, I seen a lot worse.

Bronxguayanese it sounds like the area no longer suits you and you should move...and your family as well. It's too bad that now that the area is improving substantially you won't be around to enjoy it. That "uptick" in crime, is just that..an "uptick" and I have the utmost confidence that we are not reverting back to 90s crime, not even close.

The middle class people in the community are not surprised, so you should not allege that they are....crime happens in NYC..and it does here also. You should take a walk to the Community Board meetings and hear what is ACTUALLY happening in the community, and speak directly to the Police Captain who attends every meeting. If you believe your particular block/area is having problems moreso than normal, that is the place to voice your opinion (not on city-data), and the Captain will have officers/undercovers there to root out the problem.

Or you can just complain on city-data and move, leaving the problems behind for everyone else.

While there are people who manage to get out from The South Bronx, most people sadly never do. Generation after generation in powerty trapped in the projects. Unless the new "get rid off the poor" gentrification agenda kicks them out some other ghetto upstate.

The stats for May 2nd to May 8th are up: there were 15 murders in that week reinforcing anon1 and my point that murders in the weeks of late April/early May were bringing it up to last year's level. The murder count is now 153 which is in close range to last year's (158). The two main culprits are, of course, BK North (4 homicides) and the BX (6 homicides). One precinct/neighborhood that has definitely experience an uptick is the 90th precinct (Williamsburg): there were 2 murders that week and rapes already surpass last year's level. With the exception of burglay, every crime category has an increase from last year. And just a couple of days there was a reported shooting on Graham Ave with the person likely to die, definitely keeping an eye on Williamsburg especially with it being the face of gentrification.

Wow... I was just about to post the crime statistics also... If my memory stands... the last three reported weeks have been 9, 9, and 15 while last year I believe it was 8, 5, and 7... (numbers might be slightly off)... Sad as it sounds I was waiting for an outstanding number like this because the number of murders that we had been reading about and hearing about didn't match the low murders we were seeing until these recent numbers were posted...

The 90th precinct shocked me as well... Which leads me to ask if people know how far the territory of the 90th precinct covers... does it cover the northside and southside... just the northside... is east williamsburg included? And also what are the reasons for this relative jump in the crime rate...

Also there was a murder in a bank in Ridgewood during this time period reported in the Ridgewood times that didn't show up in compstat... it might've been early this week though...

Hmm...maybe I am reading this wrong...but according to these latest crime stats we are down in EVERY category from 2010 except rape (which we have discussed) and felony assaults, which is typically teenagers doing stupid stuff.

Murder is DOWN vs this time last year 153 in 2011 vs 158 in 2010 (-5 murders, or -3.2%). This is essentially a similar rate as 2010...so what's the problem here?

There was a community board meeting a couple of months ago at Lincoln Hospital, my brother was there. Lots of worried renters and more so home owners and worried new comers too. There is an uptick in crime and it will not revert back back in the day levels. The problem is this murder is not a drug or gang related. The past few murders and incidents in mott haven has not been gang or drug related just random attacks or disputes. My block had four major incidents the past two months, compared to one major incident once a year or once every 6 months. I spoke with a liutenanet from the 40 p.o, she tells me nothing really happened like this on 137 between willis and brook but it got bad in past couple months. The guy that got killed was at the wrong place at the wrong time. HE is from Brownsville and he does not like to hang out in his own hood, instead her perfers to hang out and make friends in his girlfriends mothers neighborhood on 137 street, his girlfriend dont live there either, but both frequent the area. If you see this guy, he got so much tickets from NYPD for loitering and tresspassing. Cops even ask him one time why dont you go back home and stay put. He says he likes it here. Onetime he goes up on the roof with some trailer trash white lady, I peaked and saw them, it was disgusting. I never liked him loitering in the lobby because he drinks and smokes all hours and never goes home. He and the trailer trash white lady asked me for the key so they can hang out in the lobby, I told them nope dont have the key and they dont live here. Now he got his death for hanging out at the wrong place at the wrong time.
