I came across this interesting article regarding how Chicago is losing its competitive performance to NYC. I found it interesting because I am a native Midwesterner who was born in Michigan but left for Cleveland after living in both NYC and Chicago. I am going through a bitter divorce and want to go back to a true urban environment. Most of my posts on here are not-so-nice about NYC... but then I read this and wonder if I am totally wrong:

The Urbanophile » Blog Archive » Chicago’s Eroding Competitive Performance (Chicago vs. New York)

The gist of it is that Chicago outperformed NYC in terms of livability but its heyday is over (stats upon stats to show why lol). Do you think NYC is leaving Chicago behind? Or is this article just hype?

If you've spent time in both cities you pretty much get it. Nothing has changed drastically in five years, nor will it in another five.

Though I favor New York over Chicago, remember that #'s only tell part of the story, besides the trends pointed out is only short term. Give it a few more years and my beloved city's flaws will come back to haunt it. Closer examination could possibly reveal that the slump in #'s for Chicago is only temporary whereas NY's may be attributed to something that isn't long term.
