I don't want any bars in Bensonhurst thank you. You can take your booze, and things to Dyker Heights, and Coney Island. Just don't bring bars or drunkards that invite crime into my peaceful neighborhood.

Yeah, me too. This is a residential neighborhood, it isn't "hip and trendy", it is peaceful, and that's the way I like it.
I'm a female in my late 20's and moving back to bensonhurst. I use to live there when i was younger (cavallaro/dewey)and i loved it. Now with all the replys i'm a bit worried that i might not be in the right area.
Im originally from Brighton Beach, and i LOVED the "family" atmosphere of these neighbourhoods, like a community feel. I don't mind traveling the hour into manhattan but i wouldn't mind having a little bit of a nightlife or a "neighbourhood" bar close by.
Is there any places you guys would recommend i could go to meet people from the neighbourhood?
Bars in Bensonhurst? No, thank you... please see Bay Ridge! ...although there are a few scattered Russian or Georgian or Albanian (?) spots scattered about... but they feel more social-clubish, very insider... much like most of the neighborhood these days. Meeting "people from the neighborhood" is hard... us neighborly types are few and far between and very dependent on WHICH BLOCK.
And I have to agree... saying "the Hurst" is not something people FROM Bensonhurst say (or those of us living here since the 90s even!) I heard that mentioned in a REALLY BAD rap demo (don't ask) with the line "The Hurst is the worst" ugh. SUPECRINGE! (And it is like saying "Billyburg" - ick!)
No the residents of Bensonhurst, including me, do not want bars in our neighborhood, bringing drunks, and screaming girls, and carrying on out loud in the middle of the night.
Yes, those of us in other neighborhoods like it when those drunks and their screaming girlfriends leave the bars near us and go back home ... to Besonhurst.
If someone wants bars and nightlife in Brooklyn, Bensonhurst would not make the list of neighborhoods to consider. It's very, very quiet. Bay Ridge is just a few miles to the west and has much better nightlife.
