Interesting story that's come out. I thought the family's were gone. They're still around.

My question is: Do the NY mafia have a hold on the city these days?

My guess is silent shakedowns are probably still going on. Meaning stuff we can't see

Anybody that thinks the Mob is a thing of the past is not in touch with reality.
Although not as prevalent as they were in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s.....they're still here.

And if the Italians are not the power anymore than Russians,Albanians,other Eastern European groups and Caribbean gangs have taken up the slack.

It's unfortunate that you would say that (my being Albanian), but there might be some truth to it. And to the poster: organized crime is still around, and hard (if not imposible) to truly get rid of. Btw, I made an almost similiar thread
