The Bronx is not that bad, you just have to be careful of your surroundings like any other place. I lived there for over 28 yrs and was never robbed, attacked or had violence against me but when I moved to Poconos, PA my house was robbed the first week.

Washi, I'm not sure where I indicated - explicitly or implicitly - that I considered myself a pioneer, but if I did, then it surely wasn't my intention; and either way, I'm way too old to be a pioneer, urban or otherwise, and not the least interested in that status anyway. The theme of my post was "perceived and actual safety", not exploratory behavior, and you can delete the term white in that sentence and it still keeps its fundamental purpose, pointing out that maybe many fear appeals are exaggerated. Maybe you are right and I should not have used that term to begin with, because - personally - I couldn't care less about being white or black or pink or green or whatever. My point remains: I feel safe here and so far I have been safe here.
